We saw French, Spanish and American quarters, the two sections of the city from afar, and a great view from the very pleasant park, where you can see across the straight back towards Spain. Then we went around the coast to where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic and had a place to stop and ride camels if we wanted (which we did). At the caves of Hercules, many guides take a break and hand off their guests to other guides. But Muhammad stayed with us the whole time and toured us around the caves himself, which was very comforting—he clearly enjoys spending time with his guests and wants to provide the best and most seamless tour possible. Then we got dropped off by the van and toured the Medina with Muhammad, where we bumped into a lot of his friends who all wished us a pleasant visit to Tangier. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming in the city and my brother and I both felt very safe (rest assured!).
Our group of 7 (3 adults and 4 kids) had an extraordinary day with Muhammad in Tangier! We took the 9 am ferry from Tarifa to Tangier where he greeted us with a very warm welcome. The kids loved him right away as we set off for a day packed full of adventure with caves, camels, exquisite seascape vistas, loads of historical background and information, Berber markets, walks through the kasbah and medina, a delicious Moroccan lunch of couscous and tagine with traditional music being played in the background and lots of dancing, singing and laughing as we rode in the spacious tour van from stop to stop. We had the good fortune of perfect weather as well. The day was almost cool for mid-July. If you are looking for a way to experience the many incredible aspects of Tangier in a well-organized, thoughtful and authentic way, Muhammad is the guide for you. I contacted Mohammed only a week before traveling to set up a customized day trip to the Caves of Hercules and Chefchaouen. He was already booked, but he set us up with another tour guide, Abu. I was very impressed with Mohammed's communication during the whole process. It sounds like a small detail, but he always included my name in the salutation. None of the other guides I contacted did this. It was also clear from the emails that he was responding to my questions specifically rather than sending a form email. The tour itself was worth the trip from Spain. Abu knew the best place to eat and even ordered ahead of time for us by phone, so we'd have enough time to eat before returning to Tangier. He helped me with haggling since that stresses me out, and he did an all around good job. I highly recommend Tangier Private Tours for your touring needs.
We booked with Muha a month before our planned trip to southern Spain and Muha was very responsive to plan a day around our wishes. Unfortunately he became unavailable a week ahead of time, and promptly offered to set us up with another guide, Cherif. We had an amazing day with our planned itinerary with Cherif, who greeted so many people all day and took us to places we wouldn't have ever thought about. He was so knowledgeable about the city! One of the highlights was a surprise visit to one of the few remaining Jewish synagogues in the city. We had a leisurely day with plenty of time to stop for lunch and tea. We were traveling Spain with a few others who decided to book the tour through the ferry service and did not enjoy it nearly as much as our private day with Cherif. One special point was Cherif made it a priority to ensure that we were not pressured to buy anything and asked if there was anything in particular we wanted to buy he would take us there. The day trip to Tangier with Cherif facilitated by Muha was one of our favorite experiences during our 2 week trip. Thank you!! We hope to book with Muha when we return to Morocco in the future. He was professional and prompt with correspondence and highly recommend his personalized service!
